Partially Eaten Pitahaya
August 21, 2008Pitahaya / Pitaya / Yellow Dragon Fruit – The Fruit
August 12, 2008Yesterday, I have shown you the blossom of which the Pitaya came from. Don’t be intimidated, although the fruit is covered with thorns, the harvesters remove the thorns before packing. The fruits reminds me of the sea urchins common in the sea around my hometown.
This fruit is very popular in Japan and used in a variety of ways. Some use it as flavoring in ice creams and shakes, while others just eat the contents of the fruit. They say it’s good for your digestive system. I’ve eaten it and it was good, although i couldn’t describe it. All i know is, it was sweet with crunchy seeds similar to sesame seeds
Pitahaya / Pitaya / Yellow Dragon Fruit – The Blossom
August 11, 2008At first, I couldn’t believe that a cactus would bear fruits when I was informed that we will be packing Pitahaya aka Pitaya or Yellow Dragon Fruit for export. I was thinking of cactus as a thorny plant that can thrive in places with low humidity or a source of water for stranded persons in deserts, as seen in movies.
And when i saw the fruit, I thought it doesn’t look like a fruit and it was not pleasing to the eyes. However, the taste was great, especially when cold and upon research, it was said to be beneficial.
But what i noticed was that the fruit came from a beautiful blossom, as seen in the picture about that i took at Eden Mountain Resort. It would have been wonderful if the fruit could match the beauty of its blossom.
